On September 18, with the theme of "the world is so big, get ready to set sail," the 2015 College of Foreign Studies’ opening ceremony and enrollment education was held in the lecture hall of the teaching building. The college’s party secretary, Professor Han Jiqin, the deputy party secretary Ms. Dong Hongmei, Vice-Dean Ms. Cao Xinyu and Mr. You Yiming, college counsellors, teacher delegates, freshmen assistants and freshmen’s parents’ representatives, together with the all freshmen attended the ceremony. Divided into an opening ceremony and enrollment education, the conference was held by Ms. Dong Hongmei.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the senior student Xu Chang recalled his own youthful college life, giving practical advice to juniors with his own experiences. Subsequently, Zhou Yanran spoke on behalf of all freshmen, recalling the scene when she first went to school and expressed her sincere thanks to the seniors’ caring and warm environment. She also cited the motto of NJAU to express the desire to work hard in their studies, representing all the students to express their hopes for the future college life and the determination to struggle. Zhang Huimin, the representative of the freshmen’s parents, first expressed a blessing for all freshmen, and gave them substantive recommendations, then expressed the hope of all parents to them. As a teacher representative, Ms. Lu Dongli humorously recalled her college life in NJAU a dozen years ago. She said that teachers and students in the College of Foreign Studies are always hard-working and sunny, in spite of the stupendous changes at Nanjing Agricultural University. She hoped students can acquire professional knowledge with an attitude of humility.
Finally, the college’s party secretary Han Jiqin made a statement. She first expressed a warm welcome to the arrival of new students, and then she introduced the history, the faculty and the achievements of the college. Ms. Han also expected new students to set high goals and work to achieve their capabilities. In addition, she also combined her own teaching experience with the situation that foreign language talents are in demand, introducing the importance and necessity of foreign language learning to students. At the end, Ms. Han expressed deep wishes to students, hoping that all freshmen can control their emotions and participate in practice and come down to earth.
After the opening ceremony, the meeting came to the second part – Enrollment Education and the first period of the TED lecture in the college of foreign studies. Ms. Dong Hongmei briefly introduced the origin and background of TED to students, expressing the wish of constructing our own TED platform with insightful people and classmates to share their feelings together. The first phase of TED was lectured by the leader of the college of foreign studies. First, around the theme of “can and cannot ” in university life, the vice-dean Mr. You Yiming shared with students the four key words "attempt, ambition, hard work, harvest" through his studying and working experience, in the hope that we can choose our future road independently and hold on straight to the end. His humorous, approachable speech won applause. The vice-dean Cao Xinyu then made a speech, and focused on the topic of "differences between senior high school and university"，comparing the difference between college and the high school classroom, noting that university is full of light and freedom, and wished new students to seize the moment and enjoy school life. Her inculcation won thunderous applause from students.
Finally, Ms. Dong Hongmei expressed the most sincere welcome for 2015 freshmen again--teachers and students in the College of Foreign Studies will accompany 2015 freshmen during their growth and wish all freshmen to enjoy their four years of college life and achieve success.
