The second meeting of the International Journal Article Writing Workshop was held in E302 in the main teaching building on the afternoon of March 18th. The workshop was hosted by Dr James Luke Hadley,one of our teachers who has come to us from theUK. It was attended by numerous teachers of the college. In Dr Hadley’s last workshop, he discussed topics such as: the purpose ofpublishing papersin international journals, the difference between international and domestic journals, and the influence on institutions and the individuals of publishing in international journals. This time, Dr Hadley explained how to create targetsto maximize the number and efficiency of scholarly contributions. During the course of the workshop, he launched into a heated discussion with the teachers.

During the workshop, Dr Hadley discussedthree important factors in making targets in journal writing.First of all, he explained, it is important to know the international journals in your own academic field intimately. Knowing a journal includes superficial features such as the ranking of the journal, its focus, but also involves reading everything it has published in recent years. He suggested that it is important to read articles on issues related to your own research which have published in international journals in order to ensure the quality of your own work. In this way, you can be sure that your contribution is at least as good as those which have already been published. Finally, he stressed the importance of keeping in regular touch with the editors of international journals to which you have contributed. In short, he concluded, you should always:

· Follow the rules

· Wait for a reply

· Keep in touch

This workshop helped the college’s teachers to develop their understanding and readiness to contribute articles to international journals. It also had the added bonus of broadening their perspectives, and increasing the teachers’ confidence.

In futureworkshops, Dr Hadley will move on to discuss further topics relating to international publishing including finding a writing style, participation in international conferences, the tools of academic writing. While doing so, he will continue to share his personal experience of publishingin international journals with us.
