The Second Issue of this year’s Foreign Literatures (CSSCI journal) published an article written by Assoc. Prof. Gu Mingsheng of English Department of our college. The title of the article is “An Analysis of the Trauma Narrative on AIDS in ‘The Way We Live Now’”. “The Way we Live Now” was written by Susan Sontag, a renowned contemporary American writer and critic. This short story attracts great attention for its AIDS writing. This paper argues that the short story subtly presents a life picture in which a small social group perceives, accepts and recovers from the trauma caused by AIDS with the distinctive“chain”spatial form of text structure and the touching humanistic concern, from the viewpoints of factors of the trauma narrative, namely, absent narrator, limited point of view, testimony narrative and juxtaposed chronotopes.
