On December 11th, 2015, MU Lei, a professor at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, visited the College of Foreign Studies, and presented a wonderful lecture entitled "Language translation services, vocational education, and translation master's degree thesis writing" in the lecture hall. The lecture was hosted by Cao Xinyu, vice-dean of the College of Foreign Studies. People who attended the lecture were some teachers and postgraduates in first year and second year of our college.

Professor MU Lei noted that MTI students should first have a sense of service, strengthen the depth of services, and then focus on the practice of translation. Academic Graduate Education aims to train research personnel engaging in academic work; the goal of MTI education is to cultivate high-level, application-oriented, and professional translators, in line with market demand.

Professor MU also introduced the current situation of MTI thesis writing in MTI training units. There are five types of master’s theses at MTI: internship reports, translation practice reports, investigation reports, lab reports, and research reports. She analyzed the papers in these five different types, and also stressed the importance of mastery of Chinese Practical Writing.

During the Q & A session, she noted that theses in translation theory should be able to solve some practical issues, not just theoretical ones. She also encourages the students to combine translation, school characteristics, their own personal interests and professional advantages, and manage to initiate their own career path.
