Professor Tian Xuejun attends the Third Research Symposium of China Foreign Language Interface

The China Professional Committee of English and Chinese Comparative Research Interface held its third Research Symposium of China Foreign Language Interface and its 2016 Annual Meeting of Interface Research Professional Committee in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, on April 21st. The meeting was undertaken by the School of Foreign Languages of Xidian University. Professor Tian Xuejun of NJAU presented a paper "Cultural Perspective Speech Act Theory – Praise/Criticism Speech as an Example" at the Symposium, which was well received by the participating scholars.

Since the 21st century began, interdisciplinary research has been very active, which has encouraged several traditional disciplines, and also spawned a number of new interdisciplinary areas. As for foreign language disciplines, this interface boom is especially prominent in language, culture, and interactive three-dimensional perception. This symposium was held to exchange new outcomes and new information of interface research, and to respond to new issues and new challenges of interface research.

The theme of this symposium was language, culture and cognition research interfaces. The main themes were (a) the Philosophical Foundation of Phenomenology and Cognitive Science; (ii) Cognitive Cultural and Literary Studies; (iii) Cognitive - Functional Grammar Interface Problems; (iv) Cognitive Translation Studies; (v) Description and Cognition; (vi) Cognitive Semiotics and Symbol in Cognitive Shift; (vii) Language, Literature in Spatial Cognition; (h) Ecological and Cognitive (Cognitive Ecology Criticismand Ecological Linguistics); (ix) World Englishes and Global English of Cognitive Cultural Perspective; (j) Cultural Awareness and Cultural Resonance of Teaching.

The paper "Cultural Perspective Speech Act Theory – Praise/Criticism Speech as an Example" by Professor Tian Xuejun took praise and criticism as the starting point, and interpreted the uttered words and deeds. Its academic point of view has been well received by many scholars, and helped promote the College of Foreign Studies of NJAU.
