The College of Foreign Studies Attends ESP Workshop in the College of Engineering in Pukou Campus

Onthe afternoon of March 22, 2017, vice deans of the College of Foreign Studies(CFS) Cao Xinyu,You Yiming, the director of Publishing English Department, Gu Feirong and fiveother teachers attended an ESP workshop in the College of Engineering. XueBaolin, vice dean of the College of Engineering andteachers from theforeignlanguage teaching and research section also joined the workshop that was hostedby the director of The ESP Center of Teaching and Researching.

XueBaolin welcomed teachers from CFS for the exchange of ESP teaching between thetwo colleges before making a brief introduction of the College of Engineeringand the curriculum development of ESP in his college, hoping thatboth sides work together to promote our university’s teaching and researchingof foreign language with The ESP Center of Teaching and Researching as aplatform.

Theforeign language teaching and research section of the College of Engineeringreceived high praise for its exploring spirit and achievements in the curriculumdevelopment of ESP from Cao Xinyu who, at the time,pointed out the important role the curriculum of ESP plays in the wholecurriculum system of college English. She hoped with the exchange, the twocolleges could work side by side in the curriculum development of ESP.

KongFanxia made a keynote speech titled “Issues and Prospects in the curriculumdevelopment of ESP”. The speechcontained five parts, including designing of the ESP curriculum,practice and feedback of the ESP curriculum, achievement of teaching andresearch, Kong Fanxia introduced the development of the teams for ESP teachingand researching. She put forward an assumption of developing the ESP curriculumgroup and ESP- training curriculum. Cao Xiaoxuan, Zhang Jie and Wang Xin from the College of Engineering displayed their ideas for theESP curriculum. YangQiulan from CFS made a brief introduction of the curriculum development of commonacademic English.

Thisworkshop concluded the two colleges’ experience and achievement in thedevelopment of the ESP curriculum, laying a foundation for promoting thecooperation and development in the teaching and researching of ESP between thetwo in the future.
